A Patch of Blue

But if we share our sadness, And hopes and feelings too; Amid the frequent rain of tears, We'll find our patch of blue. - Eleisha John

Betrayed By The Cleaning Lady

My goodness, the cleaning lady is late. She was supposed to be here 45 minutes ago and she is nowhere to be found. This doesn't have to mean a bad thing because I am in a cleaning frame of mind now and can easily get out the vacuum and toilet bowl cleaner myself! It also saves us some money too...but where is she?? People used to call when they knew they were going to be late, didn't they?

A trip out to the country to visit friends reminded me how wonderful it is going to be to live out of the city one day. It is so nice and peaceful out there! However, it was also a reminder of how chaotic my life will be when/if I have three children running around the house. Picture this - 3 children under the age of 4 wreaking havoc on four adults and one dog. Someone took a toy away from the other, so-and-so hitting the other on the head, screaming like banshees while tearing around the house, wriggling like squirmy-wormies while getting a diaper changed. I wondered if having more than 2 children is really such a good idea after all?? However, I will not be having children that close together in age. I think that makes a big difference.

Sugarplum's post today (see Visions of Sugarplums) reminded me that it is the five year anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States. If you watch or read the news five years later, I'm not so sure that we have evolved socially from what happened. Is it possible that we've regressed? I'm not a big fan of a culture of fear myself.

My brother has three now too, but the spread is huge; B is nearly twelve, M is 6 and the new one is brand new!

My sister has 3 under the age of 5. The 4 year old is a dream. He takes care of the other two and the parents often give him a great deal of responsibility for a child his age. My bro in law told me last night that he had just gotten upset with the big boy because he had asked him to keep the baby busy for a minute when he went to do something and the baby crawled off and the guitar fell on him. The big boy said, "I was trying to keep him entertained but he crawled away from me." My bro and law felt bad for expecting too much from him just becase he is such a smart boy.

My point is, that when you have several kids, they are able to help each other out and they entertain each other, meals are no more work, etc. etc. You just don't sleep if my sister is any indication.

Having several kids does naturally mean that the older ones are still going to help with the younger ones. But like your bro-in-law found out, they're still not in any way a replacement for parental care.

That last sentence you wrote is so key! No sleep sucs and therefore having kids is work! Whether you have 3 under 5 or 1 under 1. :)
